What is wrong with date-setting?

I've been actively involved in prophecy for 20 years now, and I must have heard of, or received, 100 different formulations each year for the timing of the rapture or second coming. Having already witnessed around 2,000 predictions come to nothing doesn't leave me with any great hope for new ones that come along. As I see it, any person's chances of being right are, at best, one in 2,000.

I think the Word of God makes it very clear that we will not know the timing of the rapture. Matthew 24:44 tells us, "For this reason you be ready too; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will."

Because date-setting can cause emotional harm to some people, we do not allow date-setting on the message board. A couple of years back, one participant threatened to kill himself after he thought he'd missed the rapture.
